Find Your Future’s most recent event held at Kirkley Hall played host to thirty eight girls from three schools across the region.
One of the primary objectives of the workshop-styled event was to provide an inspirational look at career opportunities by giving the girls access to a number of successful female role models who are running businesses and organisations across the North East. The day was very interactive and gave the girls the opportunity to find out more about the career paths of the businesswomen involved and also to spend time in several different question and answer sessions where they could find out more about job roles in varied areas such as engineering, health, housing, manufacturing and IT.
It was wonderful having so many women from so many different backgrounds, ages and roles sharing their experiences with the girls, which created a rich learning environment and inspirational insight in to the opportunities open to young women.
The girls who took part were from Years 7 and 8 at Hexham Middle, Benfield and Heaton Manor schools and also took part in confidence building workshop session designed to help them identify their own personality traits in a “what colour are you” session which helped them to recognise and appreciate how different personalities work and influence the way different people approach career decisions. The day also included an informal picnic lunch in the beautiful grounds of Kirkley Hall and a tour of Kirkley Hall Zoo.
The day closed with a reflection session where the girls were able to summarise their own thoughts about what they had learned and would take away from the day.
The following charts give a flavour of the girls’ reflection of the day and perfectly illustrate the excellent level of participation by all and the inspiration many of the girls took from the day.
